Maestro Zubin  Mehta, one of the most sought after conductors in the world, will thrill the  audience for one night only conducting the highly acclaimed Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. The orchestra under the baton of the maestro will tackle three works that show Mehta’s energizing facility, his complete control of complex scores and why he is truly a living legend.

The evening’s programme features:
Vivaldi’s Concerto for four violins and orchestra: perhaps the most complex of a series of twelve. The four soloists are mostly divided into pairs, and hardly ever play all together. It results in a kind of musical fabric in which the lines are in constant motion, yet the colours is unified and brilliant.

Mozart’s Symphony No. 36 (“Linz”): an important milestone in the development of Mozart's symphonic music, it is the first of the truly Viennese symphonies.

Mahler’s Symphony No. 5: draws together disparate elements such as peace, levity, rusticism and harmony into a compelling score with, arguably, the most thrilling ending in the symphonic repertoire

Zubin Mehta
Though Zubin Mehta celebrated his 73rd birthday at the end of April on the first night of this year’s Maggio Musicale—when it came to the final ovations, the huge video walls that are a feature of La Fura dels Baus’s new Götterdämmerung sprouted colourful flowers and the message ‘Buon compleanno, Maestro!’—it is easy to underestimate the sheer extent of his operatic career. read more
Israel Philharmonic Orchestra with Zubin Mehta
As one of Israel’s oldest and most influential cultural institutions, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) was founded in 1936 by Bronislaw Huberman, and its inaugural concert that year was conducted by Arturo Toscanini. Then, as now, it is the living fulfillment of the Polish Huberman’s dream “to unite the desire of the country for an orchestra with the desire of Jewish musicians for a country.” read more
