Giacomo Puccini considered Madame Butterfly (an opera in theree acts) to be the best opera he had ever written. A dramatic tale, it is a very well received opera. Butterfly is a most appealing figure – she is absolutely alone in her plight, her husband has deserted her, her relatives have renounced her, the sympathetic consul gives her advice she cannot take and her servant Suzuki can’t grasp her noble single mindedness. The opera is staged by The Hungarian State Opera. The role Madame Butterfly is sung by the acclaimed soprano Tunde Franko and Eva Batori (Sept 11). Both infuse it with melancholy and tragedy. Pinkerton is played by tenors Istvan Kovacshazi and Janos Berkes (Sept 11). The opera is supported by the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra.
