Fancy Night

Date: 3 September, 2019 Time: 7.00 P.M.
The Fantasy Music Night will open with the great Clarinet Trio in A minor, op. 114 from Johannes Brahms. The melancholic undertones which can often be found in Brahms’ music, contribute to reverie together with the dramatic development, distinctive for the romantic musical area. Joyful should one feel after listening to Beethoven's Clarinet Trio in Bb major, op. 11, representing his early period and Mozartian style. Especially the nine variations in the third movement emphasize lightness and creativity, along with Beethoven's typical compositional characteristics. Robert Muczynski’s Fantasy trio op. 26, will spark imagination by his use of rhythm, syncopation and jazzy elements in contrast with sustained lyrical passages. Muczynski’s skill for transforming images into musical compositions was valued by Award-winning film maker Harry Atwood, for whom he wrote nine film scores and dedicated the trio to.

Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) - Clarinet Trio in A minor, op. 114 (1891)
Ludwig von Beethoven (1770-1827) - Clarinet Trio in Bb major, op. 11 (1798)
Robert Muczynski (1929-2010) - Fantasy Trio for clarinet, cello and piano, op. 26 (1969)
Venue: MACM, College of Music

Mahidol Wind Orchestra #2 :Celtic Images

Date: 5 September, 2019 Time: 7:00 P.M.
Airs from Scotland and Ireland are well-known throughout the world for the unique moods they can invoke. Echoes of the bagpipes, the zesty jigs and reels, the tales of lost loves, all of these will be exhibited in our concert “Celtic Images”.
The concert will start with “Tam O’Shanter”, a programmatic piece that narrates Robert Burn’s poem of the same title. Following are a pair of beautifully arranged “Danny Boy” and “Loch Lomond”, and a suite based on Celtic folk songs by Japanese composer Tomohiro Tatebe.
After intermission will be a mash-up of two Irish reels “Temple Hill” and “Molly on the Shore” by the folksong master Percy Grainger. Ending the concert will be a work based on Scottish dance tunes by Malcolm Arnold, and Sousa's rarely-heard march that employs the all-time favourite tune "Auld Lang Syne".
Come and experience various renderings of Celtic melodies at our concert!
